One of the greatest things about Star Trek is the passion of the community to not just watch it uncritically, but to examine the universe deeper and try to fully understand the universe it takes place in.

We've done lists before talking about some of the craziest fan theories about Star Trek, but we've still barely scratched the surface.

The Trek universe basically allows for anything to be possible. We've seen characters come back from the dead, aliens who can distort time and space on a whim, telepathic creatures the size of nebulas, and much more. Under these conditions it's hard to disregard any theory of what's possible in Trek, but for this list we're gonna focus on some of the most surprisingly believable theories out there.

Some of these theories were found on Reddit, others from Trek video games, and a few are just things that every Trekkie ends up thinking about sooner or later.

10. The Klingons Did Not Invent Warp Travel

We know that Klingon culture doesn't exactly hold scientists in high regard. Warp specialists like Kurak from the Next Generation episode Suspicions were social outcasts, shamed and ridiculed by the warriors of their society. One has to wonder how a species so adversarial to technology could ever invent faster-than-light travel.

Well, we know from the Deep Space Nine episode Little Green Men that the Ferengi were able to buy warp drive technology from an alien species rather than inventing it themselves. Perhaps the Klingons also got their tech from a more advanced empire.

Little Green Men also confirmed that the Klingons got warp capabilities sometime after 1947 (though Quark may have been off with his estimate, as it’s known that the Klingons had interstellar colonies far before the 20th century), but the very next episode, The Sword Of Kahless, revealed that their homeworld was invaded by the Hur'q much earlier, in the 14th century. Many fans theorise that Klingon warp technology was actually reverse-engineered from tech left over from the Hur'q invasion, or some other alien encounter.
