8. A Time-Hopping Educational Show - Mork & Mindy

TV spin-offs can typically go one of two ways. Nobody cared when Joey broke away from Friends back in 2004, while Frasier was arguably better even than Cheers. It can be very hit and miss, and it's crazy to think just how many shows spun off from Happy Days.

Among the likes of Joanie Loves Chachi, and Laverne and Shirley, was Mork & Mindy, the show that followed Robin Williams' bizarre alien. Even the writers hated the idea of incorporating an extra-terrestrial into the Happy Days family, but the character became so popular he scored his own spin-off back in 1978.

The show ran for four seasons until it was ultimately cancelled on what was a clear set-up for a fifth season that never came. After an attack from another alien, Kalnik (Joe Regalbuto), the titular husband and wife were left stranded back in time alongside cavemen, with no closure given on whether or not they would have returned home.

In speaking with Gizmodo, executive producer Brian Levant revealed that Mork and Mindy wouldn't have gone home, but instead would have hopped around time meeting different historical figures in what would have been a semi-educational show. Semi-educational, and in a complete and utterly different direction from the previous four seasons.
