10 More Overlooked Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Are Secretly Classics

1. Doublemeat Palace (Season 6, Episode 12)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

Perhaps one of the most divisive episodes in the show's entire run, 'Doublemeat Palace' has often been the subject of both undying fan-worship and intense scrutiny since its debut.

Faced with few other options, Buffy takes on a job at a local fast-food restaurant - the titular Doublemeat Palace - and what follows is a darkly funny, yet very depressing, and damning depiction of the service industry that will no doubt be familiar to anyone who has experienced the joys of working in customer service.

It doesn't take long before Buffy stumbles across something unsavoury when several employees go missing, and her increasingly creepy shift manager keeps alluding to a secret ingredient that makes their burgers so popular. It's an episode that wouldn't feel out of place in the show's early seasons, as it skilfully combines elements of satire, black humour, and good old-fashioned monster madness into one satisfying package.

Its reputation has steadily grown over the years, most likely due to it offering a tiny bit of levity from the overwhelming darkness of the sixth season, but for some reason, it still draws a lot of ire from certain parts of the fandom.

For us though, it's a classic that deserves your attention.
