8. Doc Brown Is A Rick

Rick and Morty
Adult Swim

There have been references to other TV shows and movies in many a Rick and Morty episode. The show is set in the same universe as Futurama, has crossed over with The Simpsons, and has done more parodies and references than can actually be counted. Easily the biggest influence on the show however, it clearly Back to the Future.

Though Rick has a strict no time travel policy, he and his grandson seem to share a lot of similar traits to Doc and Marty, and it is more than just their names sounding similar. In the vast multiverse of Rick and Morty, there is seemingly nothing that is out of the realms of possibility, including the fact that Doc Brown may actually be a Rick himself.

The specific Rick Doc would be is the one between Rick C-137 and Evil Rick in the latter’s rankings. He was described as being super weird, a label you could absolutely pin on Doc Brown, and Christopher Lloyd even portrayed a live-action Rick in a season five promo.

Could it be that this Rick is canon, and is the very same character as Doc Brown, who could have changed his name for a multitude of reasons, most likely revolving around keeping clear of the Citadel in one way or another?
