4. Daughters of the Dragon

daughtersdragonWhat Is It? Colleen Wing is the daughter of an American professor and a Japanese woman descended from samurai and daimyo. Raised in Japan by her grandfather, who was the former head of the Japanese secret service, Colleen was trained in the ways of the samurai. After coming to New York, she got caught in a gun battle with local police and some criminals, but was rescued by NYPD officer Misty Knight. Later, while attempting to prevent a bomb attack, Misty€™s left arm was amputated and she resigned from the force rather than taking a desk job. It was Colleen who convinced her to rise above her depression and Misty€™s arm was replaced by a bionic one provided by Tony Stark. Together, the two friends went into business as private detectives and formed Knightwing Restorations. Frequently crossing over with other characters from the Marvel Universe, they€™ve got a long-standing association with Luke Cage and Iron Fist, the Heroes For Hire. How To Do It Right? If there are two things we need more of in comic adaptations, it€™s strong female characters and strong minority characters. A Daughters of the Dragon series would provide both those things, with Colleen Wing (Japanese American) and Misty Knight (African American). You€™ve already got a built-in connection with the Marvel movies as Tony Stark provides Misty€™s bionic arm in the comics (although if Downey€™s unavailable, might want to change this to just Stark Industries or SHIELD). And if a Heroes For Hire series (mentioned in the previous article) materializes, you€™ve got endless potential for crossover episodes and love triangles that would put Buffy and Angel to shame.
