2. Frank Goes To Jail - It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
It's honestly tough to picture the It's Always Sunny gang turning down any proposed storyline, because they seem basically game for anything, but there was one "planned" episode which impressively went too far for the great Danny DeVito.
In a 2022 interview with IndieWire, DeVito revealed that, earlier in the show's run, stars Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day sent him a script where his character Frank Reynolds goes to jail for trying to pick up a hooker and is repeatedly raped by the prison's various cliques, including the cops themselves.
DeVito was immediately startled by this storyline and called up his lawyer to turn it down, but as he soon learned, he was actually being bamboozled:
"Then I got to the end of the script. And the last guy that nailed me leans in. Well, Frank is now laying on the ground, [his] face is on the ground. He's been f**ked by every… And the guy leans down and he says, 'April fools, bitch.' And I realised it was April 1st. They wrote this script in order to break my balls... I called them up. They were all on the call, laughing their asses off. And then we went and did some other crazy show."
