10 Most Awesome Season Finales Of All Time

5. The X-Files: 'Requiem' (Season 7)

Breaking Bad Walt Jesse Face off
Fox

The Episode:

Even creator Chris Carter wasn't quite sure if this would be the last episode ever of his long-running sci-fi show, so much so that he ensured this, the best X-Files finale of all time, would have an air of finality around it - and what an episode.

There's the drawing to a close of the series' main arc, Mulder and Scully getting cosy, the Lone Gunman briefly taking centre stage and, like all good season closers, not one, not two, but three major stings in the tail, as Mulder bids adios to planet earth, Krycek deals out some rough justice on the Cigarette-Smoking Man and Scully drops a late bombshell.

The show would carry on for two more full seasons, but it would never scale the heights that Requiem achieved.

Best Moment:

Skinner's face as he watches Mulder join the Bounty Hunter and a group of a abductees is an unforgettable moment, as he shares the world's shock at everyone's favourite spook leaving our screens, seemingly for good.
