10 Most Controversial Series Finales In TV History
4. Lost
It seemed like Lost was only going on and on as the writers struggled to come up with a way to wrap it all up. In the end, they only made it more convoluted and complicated, switching the focus, storylines, and central themes several times.
Lost really felt like three different TV shows stitched together; each of them would’ve been decent on their own, but together they make it hard to sum up exactly what Lost even was.
It never seemed to fully understand itself, so clearly the audience was never going to either. Not terrible by any stretch, Lost was simply too ambitious. By constantly expanding outwards, ending it with any degree of satisfaction became nigh on impossible.
The show was confusing at the best of times, but fans were willing to roll with it in the hopes it would all wrap up cleanly. When it demonstrably didn’t, they weren’t shy about airing their grievances online.
The finale had some controversy before it even aired, with Mr. Eko (Adwele Akinnuoye-Agbaje) refusing to return at all. Once it had aired though, all that was forgotten as several major newspapers ran columns defending, attacking, and mostly explaining whatever was going on with the ending.
