10 Most Gratifying Star Trek Deaths

7. The Romulan Senate

Star Trek: Nemesis starts with a rare look at civilian life on Romulus. The senate is in session, debating an alliance with the Remans and their leader Shinzon. When Praetor Hiren dismisses the notion out of hand, Senator Tal’aura excuses herself and leaves the senate chambers.

Moments later, a small device left behind by the senator opens up and disperses sparkling particles throughout the chambers. Everyone looks around, nonplussed. The praetor calls for security, then – uh-oh. Everyone starts writhing in pain as their bodies decay and calcify. The praetor himself topples and shatters on the chamber floors.

This intriguing, albeit ghastly, glimpse at Romulan society is special because such opportunities were so rare both in the canon and on the screen. Sadly, the Romulan homeworld was smooshed by a black hole a few years later, so… Whatever.

Still, the scene, while engrossing for viewers, drives home just how vicious and brutal Romulans really can be.
