Mark Hamill’s iconic take on the Clown Prince of Crime will go down as one of the greatest comic book portrayals ever. He took all the menace and madness from the comics, amplified them, and brought them to life on a television screen in an almost inimitable way.

More importantly perhaps, of all the villains in this list, this one may have had the most influence on the zeitgeist of their time. The show was a global phenomenon. And the Joker was one of the main reasons for it.

Incredibly enough, despite being a kids show, Hamill’s Joker brought all the violence cards to the table. In a true feat of artistry, they were able to convey the sheer sadism of the character, while not breaking any PG rules; creating a timeless masterpiece.

Joker blew up crowds, carried out assassinations, instigated government conspiracies, and made sure no one in Gotham, not even his own aids, were safe from his maniacal rampage.
