10 Most Heartwarming Moments In How I Met Your Mother

6. Barney Forgives His Dad

In the early seasons of the show, we didn't know too much about Barney's background, but that started to change as popularity in the character grew. We found out he had a black half-brother called James, but the pair had been raised by their mother Loretta, with neither having any idea of who their father was.

In the show's sixth season, Barney finally discovers who his father is - his Uncle Jerry, or Jerome, who wants to rekindle his relationship with his son. Barney initially rejects him though - after finding out Jerome has his own family and another son, Barney finds it hard to accept his dad couldn't raise him in a normal family, but could with someone else.

Eventually though, he gives him a second chance, and in the episode 'Hopeless', the pair work through their issues in a lovely scene, realising they have many similarities as they head to Jerome's to go fishing together. It's a great moment as Barney finally accepts where he comes from and decides to embrace the fact his father wants to make up for past mistakes.
