20 Worst Moments In Modern Doctor Who (According To YOU)
What was Russell T Davies’ biggest crime: the Burping Bin or The Reality War?
The Doctor once said that every life is a pile of good and bad things, and the same is true of Doctor Who itself.
Lots of the time it’s great. And it almost always punches above its weight.
But it’s also had its fair share of cringe moments. The type of stuff that non-fans will use to beat the show with a stick and say “See, I told you it was rubbish!”.
It’s often been said that no-one hates Doctor Who more than Doctor Who fans. As such, we asked you to pick your least favourite moments from the revived series. And given that it’s been going for 21 years now... there were plenty to pick from!
The stuff you came up with ranges from awkward humour to dodgy visual effects to stuff that just doesn’t fit the vibe of an episode (or the show in general). All of them are cringe and none of them should have made it to screen. But they did! And now here we are.
Prepare to relieve some of the most diabolical moments in Doctor Who history, as decided by you...
20. The Scribble Monster (Fear Her)
Fear Her was going to make it onto this list somehow. It was just a question of which bit. There's some tough competition, let's be honest.
But the daftest moment of all has to be the moment Rose opens a garage door and is attacked by a great big ball of scribbley-wibbley nothing.
There’s no two ways about it: the effect just looks naff. The blend between live-action and animated elements is horrendous, and the way the scribble suddenly shrinks when the Doctor freezes it is a joke.
And what sort of threat was this thing meant to pose? It's funny watching the Doctor’s hero moment as he runs to the rescue, coat flapping, sonic in hand, when Rose has all the fear in her eyes of someone swatting away a fly.
This one definitely should've been left on the drawing board.
We’ll see ourselves out.
