10 Most Inappropriate Moments In Buffy The Vampire Slayer
2. Buffy Versus The Swim Coach
Season 2 contains several lacklustre episodes, and ‘Go Fish’ is probably the worst of the lot. Determined to achieve some success, the swim coach, Carl Marin, uses a performance-enhancing steroid on the swim team, which turns them into giant fishes known as Gill Monsters.
It’s a ludicrous premise, and the entire episode is so bad it’s almost funny. During the climax of the story, the swim coach forces Buffy to jump into a pool of Gill Monsters. At first, we assume they’re going to eat Buffy, but it soon becomes clear that the monsters have different intentions:
‘They’ve already had their dinner, but boys have other needs.’
Of course, the Slayer makes it out alive, and the swim coach ends up in the pool with the Gill Monsters instead. But rather than simply eating their coach, Buffy observes them doing something else:
‘Those boys really love their coach.’
Whilst we don’t actually see what happens, the implication is clear. And it’s so repulsive that it’s hard to believe the writers actually included this. It’s a terrible end to a terrible episode.
