8. Kirk Threatens To Spank A Galactic Leader - Elaan Of Troyius

As it turns out, the crew of the USS Enterprise will slap any ass they can, whether it's their fellow crew members or not.

When the Dohlman of Elas, a planetary leader named Elaan, hitches a ride on Kirk's starship, she proves to be a troublesome guest. Spock is surprised by her harsh and selfish temperament, but Kirk has a shockingly old-fashioned explanation:

“Mister Spock, the women on your planet are logical. That's the only planet in this galaxy that can make that claim.”

Yikes.

Although it in no way justifies Kirk's claim that all women throughout the galaxy are ill-tempered, illogical beings, Elaan does throw a major tantrum and stabs an Ambassador of the planet Troyius. Kirk reacts by threatening her the way only Kirk can: "If I touch you again, Your Glory, it'll be to administer an ancient Earth custom called a spanking." Ancient is right - people hadn't spoken to women like that on prime time TV since The Honeymooners ended.

But don't worry: things get even worse! Elaan uses chemicals in her tears to make Kirk fall in love with her (which is highly questionable). She then asks, in what we think was supposed to be a sexy moment: "Captain, that ancient Earth custom called spanking... What is it?”

Yikes.
