10 Most Infamous SNL Musical Guests

4. The Replacements

The Replacements have remained one of the most unsung groups in the history of rock and roll. Being part of the college rock circuit alongside acts like R.E.M. and Husker Du, this band of drunks was always slated for disaster whenever they actually got down to performing. Just when it seemed like they got their momentum going on SNL, their luck seemed to run out yet again.

Gaining traction from their album Tim around the same time, Paul Westerberg was becoming more of a perfectionist during rehearsals, getting more infuriated that Bob Stinson would not nail the guitar solo. As the songs started at showtime, Westerberg prefaced the guitar solo by prodding Stinson with "C'mon, you f*cker." Realizing that he had just sworn on camera, Westerberg tried to play it off with a cheeky wink to the camera, which only seemed to tarnish everything even further.

Aside from a few more appearances on MTV, this would prove to be one of the last high profile gigs that the Replacements would play for years, going so far as to release their music video for Bastards of Young as just a boombox playing the song. For as much as the cream of the music industry would rise to the top, the Replacements' career just felt like a whole bunch of bad coincidences coming to a head.
