10 Most Memorable TV Drama Moments Of The 2010s

1. The Crawl Space - Breaking Bad (2011)

It wasn’t quite the most famous moment from Vince Gilligan’s acclaimed masterpiece of metamorphosis, but in driving protagonist Walter White to the very brink of insanity, Breaking Bad captured a new peak of intensity, and all but sent the show’s hype-o-meter amongst fans into overdrive.

Apocalypse is in the air with Walt backed into a corner from which there appears to be no escape. At last rendered surplus to kingpin Gustavo Fring’s meth-cooking requirements, Walter is given the simplest of ultimatums: get out, or get got.

His very last chance at ensuring his family’s survival lies beneath the floorboards of his home. The fruits of his labour up to this point, in the form of mountains of cash, should be enough to fund a prompt getaway, and new lives for the White clan…

If only things were so simple. Lo and behold, Walt’s desperate, frantic search under his house yields little in the way of results; it’s only in looking up at his terrified wife Skyler that he discovers the truth. In the cruelest of twists of fate, the money is gone, and with it, any chance they had at making it out of Albuquerque alive.

All this is enough to send a hysterical Walt over the edge, laughing maniacally as Skyler looks on in sheer terror. The camera floats above the crawl space, as though framing Walt in a coffin, and the soundtrack pulsates devilishly. The tension rises to a sickening level approaching genuine horror, and audiences have no choice but to say goodbye to Walter White as they’d known him.

From the depths of rock bottom, only Heisenberg could emerge…
