10 Most Messed Up Deaths In Star Trek: TOS

7. Blood Drained By A Cloud - Obsession

The regrettably red-clad crewmen of the Enterprise rarely get to live long enough to rue their choice of colours. Anytime they’re beamed down to a strange planet for even the most routine surveys, the only certainty is that there will be blood. Or, in the case of “Obsession”, there won’t be!

The terribly unlucky redshirts scouting Argus X are hardly pleased to make the acquaintance of a seemingly intelligent, gaseous cloud. In fact, they end up looking like they’ve seen a ghost. “Not a ghost,” they might say, “it’s a monstrous vampiric entity that drains every red corpuscle from the blood of its victims.” At least, they might if they weren’t bone-cold, pale corpses.

The being is sadly well-known to Captain Kirk, and the episode details his obsessive quest for vengeance against the bloodsucking billow. Deep space offers the wonderful, the weird, and the worrying, and the chilling sight of those snow white redshirts is very much the latter.

Having their blood drained by a hungry, hungry haze likely wasn’t what they signed up for, but on Star Trek, someone’s gotta do it.
