10 Most Overrated Star Trek Villains

6. Gorn

Star Trek Borg
Namco Bandai

A classic overrated villain, the Gorn made one solitary appearance in TOS before being replaced with CGI for Enterprise and never showing up again.

Why overrated? Because fans have a lot of fond memories of that fight sequence out on Vasquez Rocks. There are a ton of Klassic Kirk-Fu moves turned out as the captain seeks to defeat the giant rubber lizard.

The Gorn itself is a great prop creation and looks the part being one of the few distinctly non-human aliens in the 1960's show. But as a threat, the original is terrible at getting anywhere quick so a brisk walk would take you out of its way. Their ship was updated for the remastered TOS and wisely, they should have stuck to space combat rather than land assault.

Enterprise beefed the Gorn up for the 21st Century but the graphics weren't of the quality needed to make them a significant threat during the two part In a Mirror, Darkly. Aside from references in various episodes and movies, the Gorn have failed to return and the high threat level we were offered back in Arena has never been seen through.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
