10 Most Pointless Vikings Characters
8. Egil
Egil was one of those many characters who seemed full of potential, but he was gone just as early as he was introduced.
The character first appeared during Season Four on one of Bjorn's voyages to the Mediterranean, following the vengeance of Ragnar's death in England.
Seeing that Bjorn was swiftly becoming a more popular leader, King Harald started his own recruitment drive in an attempt to gain power. When Harald next went off raiding with Bjorn and company, he left instructions for Egil to take over Kattegat.
The young Viking was full of ambition, given that he was a bastard son of an Earl, and actually staged a rather successful take over of the city. Unfortunately, he soon ran into Lagertha and Astrid and was taken captive.
He even proved rather loyal to Harald, until Lagertha threatened his innocent wife. It is then assumed that he died somewhere offscreen, likely from being executed.
