10 Most Quotable British TV Shows
7. Father Ted
Father Ted is a quaint comedy set on Craggy Island, a small island West of Ireland. Three priests are sent to the island due to their own mistakes and crammed into one small house. It's not a particularly grand show but instead keeps things quite simple. This is to its own benefit as it really does sell the atmosphere of the backwater locale.
Father Ted and his co-stars often find themselves at odds with each-other, local residents and Father Dick Byrne, who lives on the nearby Rugged Island Parish. The dynamics between all the character leads to some great quotes that fans have taken and still use to this day. The dialogue is witty, funny and sarcastic in all the right ways. "I hear you're a racist now, Father!" is perhaps one of the most famous quotes from the show.
To no one's surprise, the show is incredibly popular in Ireland. However what is surprising is the fact that two of Ireland's islands played a game of five-a-side football in 2007 to decide who could call themselves the true 'Craggy Island'. This meant that the island, Inishmore, got to host the 'Friends of Ted Festival', a festival dedicated to the show.
How many shows can boast that much of a dedicated fanbase?
