In 2010, Nev and Max released a documentary that changed not only their lives but the landscape of social media interactions. Catfish: The Movie, documented Nev's confrontation with his own catfish; from this he began receiving messages from other people experiencing similar things across the USA.

And so Catfish: The TV Show was born.

10 years, 8 seasons, and over 100 episodes later, 'catfish' is a common term that has even been added to the dictionary. Known for shocking reveals and memorable stories, Catfish has so many wild episodes to choose from. No matter which one you end up watching, you're in for an adventure spanning across the whole of North America and even to England.

Over the years there have been many different reasons people begin to catfish others, the most common being that they are seeking some sort of human interaction. That being said, some of the most surprising reveals come from a place of anger or extreme lack of empathy.

If you don't have time to binge watch the series, here are the top 10 most shocking episodes of Catfish the TV Show.

10. Jennifer And Skylar

Poor Jennifer was only 18 when she sought the help of Nev and Max. She had fallen for Skylar, a male model, who she met through an online gaming site. The pair quickly began flirting and Jen was ready to take the relationship to the next level, despite never having video chatted or seen anything more than a few photos of him.

There was a brief suspicion that the catfish was secretly the show's sound mixer Tyler Faison due to the names rhyming and Skylar having previously claimed to be an audio technician. This was obviously proven wrong and the catfish was revealed to be a man named Bryan who was using the Skylar profile to practice flirting with women.

This was so shocking due to Bryan's complete lack of emotion towards Jen and his denial that he was doing anything wrong. He explained he was speaking to many girls and said he was "just hoping to brush up on his game". His emotionless response and refusal to admit he had hurt Jennifer riled up the hosts and fans alike. They left him and Nev and Max instructed him never to contact Jennifer again.
