4. The Twist – Sonnie’s Edge
Sonnie refused to take the dive and let her Beastie lose, so as retribution the man who bet on her opponent sends in a beautiful woman to seduce and ultimately murder her. All goes to plan; Sonnie dies and the sinister man indulges in his revenge.
That’s until we learn who Sonnie really is. The Beastie’s are piloted by humans who sync their minds with the creatures; but not for Sonnie. Sonnie is the Beastie and when she’s not fighting, she’s piloting an animatronic human. When the femme-fetal kills the woman, believed to be Sonnie, she did nothing more than destroy a worthless robot.
Sonnie adds why she’s so good in the ring, “You wanna know my edge? Every time I step into that ring, I’m fighting for my life.” The twist makes the battle on rewatch vastly more intense.
