6. Horde On The Highway (S2E01 - "What Lies Ahead")

After a successful, but unfortunately short first season, The Walking Dead was finally back for its second season and picked up right where we left Rick and the rest of the group on the road after the explosion at the CDC. The episode starts off with the group scattered on a highway looking in cars for food and supplies. The scene takes a dark and dramatic turn when a large group of walkers appears out of nowhere and heads straight toward the group. The group tries to hide underneath cars and in the woods to avoid the walkers. The entire scene was spectacular; watching the group struggle to remain quit as the walkers passed was pulse pounding. This opening scene sets up the entire plot of the first half of the season. Rick goes after Sophia who is trapped by a walker, knowing the highway is not safe, Rick tells her to go into the woods. They end up losing her and the first half of the season revolves around the group searching for her. Although some might say that the Sophia storyline was boring and too long, the foundation of it that was laid out in this episode was both shocking and captivating.
