10 Most Shocking TV Episode Endings
1. Scrubs - My Screw Up
"Where do you think we are?"
Scrubs is famous for its ability to juggle comedy and tragedy, but rarely was it able to do so this seamlessly. My Screw Up centers around the emotionally stunted Dr. Cox and his friend Ben (Brendan Fraser), a leukemia survivor now enjoying his life in remission.
Ben spends most of the episode convincing Cox to go to his son's birthday party, but in a twist taken straight out The Sixth Sense, it turns out that they were going to Ben's funeral instead.
What's most striking about this episode is how hilarious it is prior to the reveal. Despite the many hints that something isn't right, (Ben's camera, the subtle change in attitude of all the characters), the majority of this episode is as funny as Scrubs has ever been.
It's got JD and his shower shorts, Ben pretending to move Elliot around like a puppet, Turk getting his mole removed and replaced with fat tissue from his butt. ("You'd be a buttface," JD remarks.)
My Screw Up works so well because it gives the audience the illusion that everything's okay, until it all comes crashing down.
