10 Pretty Pretty Pretty Good Curb Your Enthusiasm Guest Stars

9. Stephen Colbert

Larry David, Jon Hamm
HBO

We all know him as the funny, laid-back and gentle host of the Late Show. Well, the absence of all these characteristics in his appearance at the end of Season 4, leaves you wondering if it’s really him.

As Larry prepares to star in the opening night of Mel Brooks’ musical, The Producers, on Broadway, he encounters a couple outside of the theatre hours before the show begins, who, (not recognising who he is), ask him to take a photo of them.

Then, as petty Curb Your Enthusiasm falling outs typically go, something tiny escalates into a full-blown argument: Colbert wants the picture horizontal and Larry doesn’t agree.

When Colbert’s wife sides with Larry on this issue, he loses the plot. How dare she be so disloyal! Afterwards, when he finally realises Larry’s face is on the poster of the show they just bought tickets for, he places a curse on him, vowing ‘YOU…WILL…FAIL’.

It’s not a particularly long appearance but to see Colbert so out of character speaks to his (unbeknown to most!) acting abilities.

It seems his character also possesses magical powers, as in line with his spell, Larry David’s performance takes a wrong turn at one point and he must pull a rabbit out of a hat to avoid a full-scale audience walk-out…
