10 Reasons Better Call Saul Is Better Than The Walking Dead

4. No Wasted Episodes

One major issue with the Walking Dead is that many episodes are comprised of nothing more than inconsequential filler material to get the characters through to the next week. With around 16 episodes per season, it seems that the writers have too much screen time and not enough ideas to fill it. The second season gained a reputation for being dull, with so many episodes being wasted on the search for Sophia, a search that most viewers didn't care about. Most viewers couldn't have even told you what she looked like without cheating and going back a few episodes.

As a general rule, at least four episodes a season are guaranteed to be good ones, these being the season and mid-season openers and finales. The other episodes are hit and miss, but most of them are just on auto-pilot, consisting of supply trips and boring conversations. If you go away on holiday, you really have no need to record it, you can safely miss a couple of episodes without any real detriment to your understanding of the show as a whole.

With only 10 episodes a season, Better Call Saul doesn't really have much room for filler content, it needs to make every episode count. If you miss an episode, it is highly likely you will miss several important details, as each episode gradually builds on from its predecessor and up towards the one that will follow it. Having a complete narrative running through all ten episodes of a series helps to keep things on track and prevent characters getting lost along the way; which is ultimately much more satisfying than gratuitous death and destruction every week in lieu of actual story development.
