8. The 'Farce' Episodes
Taking the fact that the cast were a company of actors with experience in comic timing, it helps that they had a writer who could deliver scripts with such precision. In Joe Keenan, the series found its true hero. Keenan rose through the ranks from story editor to head writer, even co-writing the finale. He won five Emmy awards during his time on the programme but why is he highlighted beyond other writers? Well, if there was a 'farce' episode, he will have written it. Take any episode and it is loaded with quick wit and physical comedy. The Two Mrs Cranes sees Daphne's ex (admittedly, another strange UK accent) turn up and she immediately tells him that Niles is her husband. Then there's The Matchmaker, where Frasier's new station manager is convinced he's gay and, leading on from that, Out With Dad where it is presumed Martin is gay and he takes, yet again, the unfortunate Niles and pretends that his son is his lover. To top them all though, there is The Ski Lodge, a true farce in every manner as Niles and Frasier try to woo Daphne and her lingerie model friend Annie, while Daphne tries to flirt with Guy the ski instructor and Annie tries it on with Niles all leading to one of the best Frasier quotes as he says,"Let me see if I've got this straight. All the lust coursing through this lodge tonight, all the hormones virtually ricocheting off the walls, and no one...was chasing me?" Perhaps the finest ten minutes in Frasier though must go to the Niles section of Three Valentines. As opposed to describing it, just watch it above, you won't be disappointed.
