10 Reasons Why Frasier Is The Best US Sitcom In History

3. The Romance

At its heart, Frasier is a series of love stories about men and women trying to find their 'one' (or, to use the words of Phoebe Buffay, 'their lobster'). We've already talked about Frasier's trials leading to the final episode but it was with Niles and Daphne that the series gained the viewers and the plaudits. It's a beautifully told story because, from the very first second Niles meets Daphne in episode three, Dinner at Eight, he is head over heels. He will take any moment to be near her and has found someone warm he can be with, as opposed to the invisible Maris. Unfortunately for Niles, the right moment never presents itself because Niles is either married or Daphne is with Donny (and he with Mel). It's only on the night before Daphne's wedding, when Frasier watches the two couples dance, that he realises that they love each other. Beyond that, though, there are moments such as Niles and Daphne cooking dinner together whilst singing 'Heart and Soul' or dancing a passionate tango before all of Maris' friends (later dragged up several seasons later in Niles' divorce proceedings) or the moment where Daphne thinks she will lose Niles, now her husband, to a brain tumor. It's brilliantly played by both actors and, more than anything else, we see their relationship develop from acquaintances to husband and wife.
"Love is an awesome force. It can make us do things we never imagined were possible. For you see, we don't actually choose love €“ it chooses us. And once it has, we are powerless to do anything about it."
