Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Reasons Season 2 Was The Best
5. Angelus Is The Scariest Big Bad
Every season of Buffy has its own Big Bad- the main enemy that Buffy and her friends must defeat. There are always a few battles before the war is won but ultimately the good guys emerge victorious (just like in real life...right guys? RIGHT?). Each Big Bad has its own evil charms- the Mayor in particular excels at terrifying you while simultaneously making you like him- and they come with various threat levels. But though Angelus (Angel's de-souled alter-ego) may not be as powerful as, say, Glory the god, his emotional impact on Buffy and talent for cruelty makes him the scariest. The magic of a show like Buffy is that, for all the demons and magic, it's incredibly relatable and perhaps nowhere so profoundly as in the case of Angelus. The fear that the First Evil in the universe is out to get you because you messed with its mojo by getting resurrected by your witch friend? Not that relatable (or if it is, kudos to you, your life is more exciting than mine). The fear that a guy you thought you knew and could trust now wants to hurt you and is maybe lurking in those shadows right now? Sadly very relatable for a lot of the young people watching the show.
