10 Reasons The Great British Bake Off Is A Slice Of British Brilliance

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are the two stars of the Bake Off tent, they're the buttercream filling that holds the entire sugary and sometimes crumbling masterpiece together. Mel and Sue were friends long before the Bake Off was a thing, and it sure does show; their dynamic is that of sisters, their timing perfect and each of them bringing something different to the tent.

They're almost like a female equivalent of Ant & Dec, but they're funny. Providing typically British puns and excellent one-liners. Highlights from this series include 'OK bakers, string up the bunting. This bun ting is over' from Mel, and 'You'll all be getting invitations to the post-show party, where Mary will be reprising her now famous twerking routine', from Sue. They break the ice and allow us to get to know both bakers and judges, making the show feel like an old friend.

Not only do this dazzling duo make us laugh, they act as much needed sources of support to the bakers in the tent. Rumour has it that if a contestant breaks down mid-bake, they stand next to them swearing and repeating the names of big brands – this isn't the support I'm talking about, they're doing it so the footage can't be used in the show and the bakers get a bit of privacy in stressful times.
