David Tennant's tenure as the Doctor in Doctor Who made him easy casting for likeable eccentrics and dashing romantic leads. So when it was announced he'd be playing Kilgrave, also known as the Purple Man, one of Marvel's creepiest villains, it seemed an odd choice. Could Tennant convincingly pull off mind control and sadism? Turns out...yep, oh boy, it looks like he really can. The trailers so far have featured flashes of Tennant's performance and his intensity is unnerving and chill-inducing. His voice is drenched in threat and violence. He's basically unrecognisable as the cheerful time traveller who brightened kids' Saturdays. Instead, his Kilgrave looks to be the stuff of nightmares.
