10 Reasons Why Arrow Needs To Kill Off Oliver Queen

With Crisis on Infinite Earths looming, here's why Arrow HAS to kill off the Emerald Archer.

After over a year of build, Crisis on Infinite Earths is edging ever closer. Due to commence with December 8th's episode of Supergirl, this five-episode, five-show crossover event is going to change the landscape of DC TV as we know it.

Not just will Crisis play out across Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, but this game-changing story arc will also feature stars from Smallville, Black Lightning, Batman: The Animated Series, and more as The CW looks to somehow streamline any and all DC Comics-driven series into one standard timeline.

It's bold, it's brave, and it's going to be an utter treat for longtime fans of any of these shows. But it's not going to be all sunshine and rainbows, mind, for there are some very real costs on the line in Crisis.

Adapted from the legendary 1985 comic book tale, Crisis will see The Anti-Monitor step out of the shadows and look to destroy the entire multiverse. In said comic book arc, DC's finest heroes eventually managed to save the day - although several huge names died in the process.

With Arrow due to come to a close in January after eight fantastic seasons, then, here are ten reasons why the series must kill off Stephen Amell's Green Arrow before all is said and done.

10. To Show That There Are Very Real Consequences

Without consequences, what's the point in anything?

If the very existence of the multiverse is at stake, there simply has to be some consequences to that all-encompassing, all-powerful threat. And what better way to drill home the point that major consequences exist, than by killing off the character who started this shared world of heroes.

In previous crossover events or larger story arcs, the Arrowverse has often killed off supporting players or heroes from alternative Earths. With a threat as ominous as The Anti-Monitor and the potential wiping out of the entire multiverse, there can be no punches pulled when it comes to the severity of this situation and the huge costs that have to be paid to avert disaster.

No longer can an Arrowverse crossover get by without killing off one of this shared TV world's top, top players. For better or for worse for Arrow fans, there are no names as big as the Green Arrow. As such, the death of Oliver Queen is needed in order to really strike a chord that there are some very real, very tragic consequences to threats like The Anti-Monitor and his crazed plan.
