10 Reasons Why Friends SHOULDN'T Do A Reunion

9. No One Wants To See An Old Joey Hitting On Women

In the ‘woke’ era, it’s hard to see how well Joey's character would play out. While he has long been a fan favourite for his childlike naivety and famous catchphrases, there is an inevitability that his penchant for picking up women won’t have aged as well as other characters may have.

This is only exacerbated by the fact that Matt Le Blanc is now 52 years old, and there is a certain, granted, possibly unwarranted (we all deserve love, right?), discomfort associated with watching an older man hit on people.

I know what you’re thinking. Perhaps the writers will change that! Maybe Joey will have experienced some sort of character development over the past 25 years that he ever so clearly lacked in the episodes.

Either way, if the writers succumb to the pressure of changing Joey’s traits to align better with a 2019 audience, they will certainly upset fans who loved the original Joey. If they stick to their roots and play out the character as he was, I fear the internet will have something to say about it.

This is what Joseph Heller was referring to in Catch 22.
