Throughout comedy history, there have been some great catchphrases, and Friends is no exception. Joey frequently utters how YOU doin? when trying to pick up girls, Janice never misses a chance to utter ohmyGod! and could Chandler BE any more sarcastic? Even Ross has a catchphrase, but its not a good one. In fact, it encapsulates a lot of the reasons why he is such a terrible person in just a matter of five words. We were on a break is an argument with all the intellectual maturity of a drunk Labrador puppy (Labradors are perhaps the stupidest of all the dogs), and shows just how unable Ross is to take ownership of his mistakes. It illustrates how impossible he finds it to swallow his pride, which while not a nice thing, is something everyone has to do at some point.
