10 Reasons Why Ross Geller Is TV's Biggest Ever Assh*le

6. The One Where He Repeatedly Puts His Friends In The Middle Of His Arguments

Because Ross has the emotional intelligence of a lobotomised shark, he finds it very difficult to win arguments alone. He needs a posse, a gang of people who believe in him, shouting €œyeah€ as he lobs out another cruel and un-called for put-down. But his friends won€™t play that part, because they€™re not horrible people. So instead, Ross has to put them in the middle of his arguments, whether they like it or not. For example, he won€™t go and help them when they get stranded on the way to the ski house, because Rachel is there. To an emotionally stunted man like Ross, that means they€™ve chosen Rachel and rejected him, and he lets them know that and then some. And when he cheats on Rachel, his friends listen to his version of events. Yet he twists these discussions to use as ammunition in front of the whole group when they have an argument:
Ross: We were on a break! Rachel: You know Ross why don€™t you put that on your answering machine! Ross: Hey-hey, it€™s valid okay? And I€™m not the only one who thinks so, Monica agrees with me. Rachel: What?! Monica: €I don€™t know. Ross: That€™s what you said last night.
To be fair to Ross at this point, Monica then drops Joey in it, but if you had such a douchey brother, some of that is going to rub off.
