10 Reasons You MUST Finally Watch Deadwood
1. THAT Opening Scene
If you're still not convinced that Deadwood is for you then try pressing play on the first episode and watch the opening scene. It perfectly sets up what's to come in a tense and violent encounter.
The scene introduces Seth Bullock as he carries out one of his final acts as the Sheriff of another town, before moving to Deadwood. As an angry mob bays for the blood of a prisoner in the local jailhouse, Bullock takes action to spare the man from a grisly death at the hands of the crowd, allowing him a slightly more dignified end.
There aren't many opening scenes as full of drama, excitement, foul language and unsavoury actions as Deadwood's and it's a fitting introduction to the show's dark, unforgiving world. It also provides a taster of just how far Bullock will go to enact his own ideas of justice and explains why he's initially reluctant to take on the role of Sheriff in Deadwood.
It's a near-perfect opening scene for a near-perfect show.
