10 Reasons You MUST Finally Watch Deadwood
8. The Town Of Deadwood
Deadwood is based on a real town in South Dakota and the show uses real events and historical figures as a basis for its story. Deadwood is still very much fictional, but it's these deep-seated roots in reality and the gorgeous set design that make it so beguiling.
The show is set during a boom period for the fledgeling town and new businesses are springing up on every corner; Deadwood is buzzing. It's a living, breathing entity, setting the perfect stage for the growing populace to work, play and clash as they see fit.
Whilst there are lots of great Deadwood locations, much time is spent in The Gem Saloon, a bar and brothel run by the formidable Al Swearengen. Under Swearengen's watchful eye, The Gem serves as a backdrop for considerable acts of debauchery, bloodthirsty violence and excessive drinking.
The town of Deadwood is so compelling because it feels genuine, looks authentic and captures the atmosphere and tone of the show perfectly.
