10 Reasons You Must Watch Avatar: The Last Airbender
4. Relatable Doesn’t Even Cover It
Avatar: The Last Airbender is hugely successful at dealing with the big issues throughout its story (more on this later), but it also nimbly navigates day-to-day challenge that most kids (and adults) are dealing with in such a way that makes it one of the more relatable shows out there.
Most of the main cast are really no older than young teens (we were all that age, once upon a time) and so friendship and finding yourself play a huge part in each of the characters development arcs.
As such, they all have needs and fears that many of us can identify with, from the fear of being different, of struggling with difficult families, to even something as simple (but oh so important) as being comfortable with the way you look. Characters also struggle, and often times learn to deal with, responsibilities, grief, mental health, and questions of morality.
All of this at the same time as global shifts and events are taking place both in show and out (is 2020 over yet?), these young kids are just trying to find and accept themselves. It's never been easier to see yourself in a world where bisons can fly.
