2. The Guest Stars Are Absurdly Great
In addition to a stellar main cast, the guest stars on this show are just ridiculous. Bradley Whitford of West Wing fame shows up as Jake's deadbeat dad. Sandra Bernhard, comedy and cabaret legend, is perfect casting as Gina's equally eccentric mother. Patton Oswalt appears as do half the hot young things in American stand-up including Moshe Kasher and Jenny Slate. Hardly an episode goes by without someone wonderful popping in. Perhaps most spectacular is Kyra Sedgwick, who has built her career largely as a dramatic actor. In Brooklyn Nine-Nine she plays the closest thing the show has to a villain as a higher-up in the police department hellbent on ruining Holt's career. She is icy and absurd and just absolutely perfect.
