10 Reasons You Should Be Watching Once Upon A Time

9. Dr. Whale

The beginning premise of Once is deceptively simple: Emma, a young woman living in Boston, is approached by a boy who turns out to be the son she gave up for adoption years ago. He brings her to the little town of Storybrooke, Maine, which he insists is inhabited by the characters in his book of fairy tales, all of whom are cursed and cannot remember who they are. It€™s no spoiler to say that before long, we find out he€™s right €“ and as soon as we do, the world of Once begins to expand exponentially. A large piece of the expansion puzzle is the character of Doctor Whale (David Anders) who (without giving anything crucial away) hails from a creative realm far beyond that of normal fairy tales. His appearance and identity adds critical elements of intrigue and mystery to the show throughout the second season. It may even hint at longer-term plans for the series to head in even newer directions well beyond the expected scope of its classically-based beginnings.
