10 Recent TV Shows That Failed Hard (But Should Have Been Great)
4. 24: Legacy
There’s no denying the mark the original run of Fox network’s series 24 left - frankly, it was a game-changer.
Sporting rip-roaring action and thrills straight out of a high-end blockbuster, its small screen presence allowed it room for unpredictable twists and sucker-punches, resulting in it setting a new bar for TV thrillers in the modern age.
Like most successful U.S. network shows though, it outstayed its welcome. The unpredictable became predictable, and the formula got worn down and surpassed by fellow rival upstarts (e.g. Homeland).
However, with several key writers and producers returning for a revival show, the opportunity to bring the brand back to relevance was nigh. Its purpose was to rejuvenate it equally for long-time fans as well as a new generation. The creative team strived hard to replicate the old feel while replacing the aged Kiefer Sutherland with young gun Corey Hawkins.
Unfortunately, it only served as a reminder of how dated the principles and style of the show had become. Sure, it was true to the original formula, but TV had moved on - the whole ordeal basically felt archaic.
Sometimes things are just better left alone.
