5. The Leviathans - Supernatural
Another CW flagship series, Supernatural's 15-season stint was marked by otherworldly hijinks (both large and small) and was ably carried by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who played the Winchester brothers. Their chemistry elevated the show around them, and it also helped that the storylines were often engaging, if not entertaining.
Unfortunately, the VFX work used to realize the paranormal creatures faced by the fraternal duo was very inconsistent and undercut the palpable threat posed by beings that have existed since creation.
This is best exemplified by the depiction of the Leviathans in the show's widely-reviled seventh season. Leviathans are often visualized as terrifying forces of nature that existed even before other supernatural beings and the universe, but here they are uninspiring shape-shifters that take on human hosts.
It does not help that the CGI used to depict these shape-shifters was laughably bad and looked like a hasty (and cheap) copy-paste of a demonic mouth onto an actor's face. The result was one of the show's most ridiculous offerings, and that says a lot given that we got episodes with spooky WiFi as a plot device and a Paris Hilton cameo.
