10 Red Dwarf Fates Worse Than Death

7. Being A Brain In A Jar

Where Series 7 divides the fans, Series 6 is widely considered the best of them all, and the cliffhanger ending would have been one hell of a way for the show to go out.

Happily, we got more of the good stuff but "Out of Time" showcased a future the Dwarfers simply had to escape. Cat losing his hair, Kryten's horrendous toupee and Rimmer's ghastly yellow uniform paled in comparison to the fate of Mr Lister, as the plucky Scouser suffered an unspecified accident that left him as nothing but a brain in a jar. His locks remain intact but gone is any hope of... well, anything, really.

Despite being completely reliant on his crewmates to remember to take him anywhere (or anywhen) they were going, Lister's chirpy optimism persists, but for many this would be a living nightmare straight out of an R. L. Stine story.

Kudos to Dave Lister for putting on a brave face (figuratively), but most of us would sooner have gone down in whatever flames the accident might've caused instead of carrying on in this way.

Probably the only person ever to see all the endings of the awful Shadow the Hedgehog video game. Professional proofreader, football fanatic, lion tamer and occasional liar.
