10 Rick & Morty Fates Worse Than Death

5. Trapped In The Detoxifier

After an "in-and-out, 20 minutes adventure" turns out to be traumatising, R&M decide they've earned a bit of R&R and venture to the best day spa in the galaxy. As part of their recuperation they decide to use the Detoxifier, a machine that purges you of all your cognitive toxins.

It sounds too good to be true, but it genuinely works... except for the minor detail that once separated, the toxins purged from you manifest as their own beings of pure toxicity, with their own consciousnesses and personalities. The toxic versions of Rick and Morty initially don't even realise where they are, thinking that the Detoxifier has exploded and left them in the hellish aftermath.

Toxic Rick is a being of pure hate who despises Morty, whereas toxic Morty is a being of pure self-hatred who simply wants to die. Either way, being trapped in the Detoxifier is clearly horrifying, particularly for anyone who isn't Rick who would likely never be able to find their way out, condemning them to a toxic wasteland forever... or at least until they unplug the machine.
