10 Ridiculous TV Premises You Won't Believe Were Real
4. Gone To Pot
Gone To Pot fulfils two important roles. It’s an investigative documentary with a serious and worthwhile subject: the health benefits of medicinal marijuana on older people. It is also a descent into madness, a freewheeling road trip in which Christopher Biggins gobbles down too much weed laced ice cream and has to be put to bed.
The premise is simple: five aging celebs hop on a bus to tour the west coast of the USA, where cannabis has been made (then) newly legal. They want to find out whether it might assist with their various ailments.
Some - darts player Bobby George, EastEnders’ Pam St Clement - take to it right away. Others - stick in the mud ex-footballer John Fashanu - want nothing to do with it (it’s hard to figure out why he even agreed to be on the show).
And then there’s Biggins. Initially reticent, once he gives himself up to the premise he exceeds his limits time and again. His loss of control is howlingly funny, as are his moments of regret the morning after.
Perhaps Gone To Pot wasn’t the incisive documentary they’d hoped for, but if you want to see five aging British celebs get absolutely battered, this is the one.
