10 Scariest TV Episodes To Watch This Halloween

4. Hush - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

When you're scared by something, one of the most natural reactions is to scream. It's a raw, visceral reaction to convey terror, and the genius of Hush is that it robs the characters of it.

Even though it's almost entirely silent, this is one of the best written episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and undoubtedly its most purely terrifying. The creature design for the Gentlemen is suitably creepy, and even more troubling once the physical performance of Doug Jones is added in.

Oh, and the goal of these monsters? To steal the hearts from their victims, naturally, all aided and abetted by straitjacketed ghouls. They're some of the scariest monsters put on the small screen, but it's the silence that turns this from just another creature feature into something wholly unsettling and unforgettable.

You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard.
