10 Simpsons Voice Performances That COMPLETELY Changed

1. Marge Simpson

Homer Simpson
Fox

Marge takes the top spot, meaning only Lisa has recognisably the same voice at 742 Evergreen Terrace since the show began. Maggie lives there too, but her not speaking is such a running gag she doesn’t even speak in flash forwards.

Her James Earl Jones days were in non-canonical a Treehouse Of Horror, so Maggie only really has Elizabeth Taylor as her official voice. With that cleared up, let’s get back to Marge.

Julie Kavner is the essentially the voice of the Bouviers. As well as Marge herself, she voices Patty, Selma and Jaqueline; all characters that put significant strain on Kavner’s vocal cords. In more recent seasons, Kavner’s Marge sounds more like early seasons Patty & Selma.

Obviously, Patty & Selma have gotten even more gravelly to compensate. They could easily have made the list here too, but it seems a waste of a spot when it’s for the exact same reasons as Marge.

It’s been a slow process, one which hasn’t been especially noticeable season in season out. However, going back to watch the classic episodes or tuning in to the modern ones after a long absence, and the difference is immediate and quite grating.
