10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Arrested Development

7. Annyong's Final Revenge

Arrested Development
Fox / Netflix

Annyong was introduced after Lucille angrily signed some adoption paperwork from the Korean Consulate of Child Services. He showed up a few months later, but the young man didn't know any English, so he greeted everyone with the Korean word, "annyeong," which means "hello."

The Bluths being the Bluths, thought this was his name, and Annyong Bluth became another member of the family. He was in the show for a bit, but after Lucille tired of his presence, she shipped him off to the Milford School, which was the same institution she previously sent Buster.

The family forgot about him for a while, but he returned to reveal himself to be a mole inside the family, and his real name is "Hel-loh." He wasn't working for the SEC, but for his family whom George Sr. stole the idea of the banana stand, which forced them out of business. The revelation was surprising—if you didn't speak Korean, or pay enough attention along the way.

Before he returned, Annyong was seen wearing a T-shirt with a mole on it several times in two episodes, but when the banana stand was destroyed in "Afternoon Delight," it was defaced with graffiti reading, "I'll get u Bluth — Hello." In Korean, "Hel-loh" translates to "one day," so the sign actually said, "I'll get you Bluth — One day."
