If you have ever had an irrational fear of mannequins or statues, read no further because this detail is a creepy one. Episode six of The Haunting of Hill House boasts some complex and masterfully executed long-takes. These shots take us weaving through doors and down hallways without ever cutting away. As such, you’d be forgiven for not noticing that one statue in the spooky hallways of Hill House seems to have a mind of its own.

Pay attention a little way into the episode when young Hugh passes two identical ornate marble statue during a flashback. At this time, both are in their default positions, head looking straight-forward. Later, however, when Olivia passes through the same area, the statue on the left of the screen has its head turned towards her.

Indicative of Hill House’s malicious obsession with Olivia, this moment plays as particularly creepy with her eventual fate in mind. Not only this but regardless of how big and tough you may think you are, statues moving by themselves will never not be terrifying.
