10 Star Trek Actors Whose First Appearances You've Totally Forgotten
2. Rene Auberjonois As Colonel West
Rene Auberjonois' Odo is one of the best characters in not just Deep Space Nine, but the Star Trek universe. His quest to find somewhere he belongs and the inner conflict between his genetic ties to the Founders and his bond with the Federation is one of the strongest elements of DS9's Dominion war arc. Auberjonois was no stranger to the Star Trek universe, however.
Two years prior to his role as Odo, Auberjonois played Colonel West in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. West is one of the Starfleet officers involved in the conspiracy to trigger a war between the Klingons and the Federation. West proposes a rescue mission deep into Klingon space that would break interstellar law. The plan is turned down by the Federation president out of respect for the difficult diplomatic situation. It's therefore no surprise when, at the film's climax, the Klingon assassin that attempts to assassinate the president is unmasked as West.
You'd be forgiven for not remembering his appearance in the film however, these scenes were cut from the theatrical release of the film, which is currently the only version available on Blu-ray.
